K.V.NO1, UDHAMPUR REPORT ON VISIT OF SCIENTISTS FROM INDIAN INSTITUTE OF INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE (IIIM), JAMMU TO VIDYALAYA UNDER JIGYASA PROGRAMME Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan has always endeavoured to indulge its students and teachers in several innovative and progressive activities throughout the session to maximize teaching and learning outcome. ‘Jigyasa’ is one such student scientist connect programme launched by KVS with objective to improve scientific temperament and inquisitivity among students. Under this programme the scientist visit the respective schools and interact with students followed by visit of students to laboratories of Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM), Jammu. In the series of these activities under Jigyasa programme, two scientists from IIIM, Jammu visited to Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1, Udhampur on 26-7-2020 for interaction with students and teachers. The scientists who visited school were Dr.Amit Nargotra and Dr.P.L. Sangwan, both holding the position of senior scientists in IIIM, Jammu. The programme was attended by Respected Principal of K.V.No.1, Udhampur, Sh. Sumit Mehra, Mr.Vikramaditya (PGT Physics), Ms. Navjot Kaur (PGT Physics), Ms. Seeniamol M.V (PGT Biology), Ms. Sushma (PGT Chemistry), Ms. Rosy Dhiman (TGT Science), Mr. Surinder Kumar (TGT Science), Ms.Renu Yadav (TGT Science) and Ms.Jyoti Gupta (TGT Science) along with approximately 100 students from classes X, XI(Science stream) and XII(Science stream) participated in this one day interaction programme and benefitted. The scientist commenced their lecture with the discussion of career options for higher studies in science stream followed by the briefing of infrastructure of laboratories and ongoing research projects in IIM, Jammu. The lecture was further detailed by discussion over several research programmes like discovery and development of bioactive natural products mainly from plant sources and application of Chemo informatics approach to design new inhibitors of cancer, Tuberculosis, Malarial targets etc. are few examples to quote among several scientific topics that had been touched by the scientists. The motivation and inspiration that students derived from this talk was clearly evident through their questions and discussion with the guests. The interaction programme concluded with the question-answer round where the scientist answered career related and content related doubts of the students followed by vote of thanks presented by one of the students among audience. The lecture inspired the students and aroused their curiosity to witness field work in the laboratories of IIM, Jammu by visiting there.
